International Women’s Day Spotlight: Julia Condon

Next in our International Women's Day Series is Julia Condon. Julia is the founder, designer, and artist behind Good JuJu —a homeware brand with a mission to bring good juju into any space.

Julia, what inspired you to pursue your creative passion?

The need to create. For me, creating feels so natural—I’ve been drawing since I could remember.

I’m also inspired by my Italian heritage, and growing up in the Melbourne suburbs with my Mediterranean family. I work with my Mum, and sometimes she drives me crazy. But more than that, she is my biggest inspiration. She loves what we create, and I love seeing her energy when people buy our products at markets.

To be able to evolve my creativity into something like this, where I get to see my designs and art in people's homes, has been so inspiring.

How do you stay motivated, especially during the more challenging times in your career?

Staying positive when owning a small business can be one of the most challenging things.

I’m lucky that I have an amazing group around me that keep me motivated, on the right path, and help me to see how amazing this business can be. I feel so grateful that I have them.

What advice would you give to other women who want to pursue their creative endeavours?

It can be so hard, and challenging beyond belief, but the benefits always outweigh the negatives, so just give yourself time.

There are so many incredible things that can happen, like seeing the meaning your work can bring to other people.

For example, when I’m at a market and someone comes up to me to tell me how much they love what I do—it means the world. For that, it is worth trying.
